Blog Article For Rise - The People First : An Exhibhition By Zito Mowa

#Rise
The people first

“Agona le tshogo” meaning “We are fearless” is a caption found on one  of Kgodiso Zito Mowa’s Instragram posts and we are about to witness this caption come to life in an exhibition titled #Rise, as once again Umuzi dedicates another First Thursdays event to a thriving and talented artist.

“The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
– Long Walk to Freedom

#Rise: the people first looks into the importance of participating in our country’s political narrative by celebrating those activists who fearlessly contribute towards a more equal society while challenging apathy and ignorance in those that don’t.

To add onto the awe projected by the visual exhibition is the audio element of it, where we get to listen to Zito’s music, and every song is tied to the feel and aesthetics of every visual display.

To give credit where it’s due, Zito collaborated with  photographers George Kambwiri & Nonkululeko Chabalala to include contemporary images taken at #FEESMUSTFALL and other protests.

The Work on display will be available for purchase so come prepared to either snapscan, pay cash or EFT because no card payments will be accepted. The 7th of June 2018 will be the night we all congregate in awe of this magnificent artist’s work and Braamfontein is where church is at.
